RIP Bernard Stollman of ESP-Disk’

Influential jazz label ESP-Disk’s founder Bernard Stollman passed away Sunday night. Since last year he had been battling colon cancer that had spread to his spine and had also lately had pneumonia and low blood oxygen. He was 85.

His label released records by the likes of Albert Ayler, Ornette Coleman, Sun Ra, Pharoah Sanders, Cecil Taylor, and many others.

The label plans to host a memorial service in NYC next month.
